Position: Impact Portfolio Analyst – Family Office
Who We Are
We are a privately owned Family Office located in Ottawa with a mandate to deploy capital toward angel investment opportunities in alignment with the family’s financial goals and impact mission. This is a part-time (2-3 days per week) remote work opportunity offering competitive compensation.
Impact Portfolio Analyst – Purpose of the Role:
As an Impact Portfolio Analyst, you will contribute to impact strategy, due diligence, portfolio monitoring and the preparation of impact and financial performance reports. This is a hands-on role ideal for those pursuing a career in socially responsible investing.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct impact and financial due diligence on prospective angel and early-stage investment opportunities.
- Assess alignment with the family’s impact thesis, values, and sustainability goals (e.g., ESG, SDGs, or thematic focus areas).
- Prepare investment memos, risk assessments, and valuation models.
- Perform market research to identify trends, comparable transactions, and benchmarks.
- Develop and maintain impact measurement frameworks and KPIs for portfolio companies.
- Support ongoing portfolio monitoring, including tracking financial performance, social/environmental outcomes, and governance metrics.
- Collaborate with founders and fund managers to collect impact data and verify results.
- Assist in preparing quarterly and annual impact reports for internal and external stakeholders.
- Maintain and update the family’s impact investment database, CRM, or portfolio management tools.
- Contribute to the refinement of impact strategy and thought leadership (e.g., case studies, presentations).
- Liaise regularly with Family Office staff as required to support and integrate broader wealth management initiatives.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Business, Sustainability, Environmental Studies, or a related field.
- 2–5 years of experience in investment analysis, impact investing, ESG, venture capital, or management consulting.
- Demonstrated understanding of financial modeling, valuation, and early-stage investment dynamics.
- Familiarity with impact measurement and management frameworks such as:
- UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
- Theory of Change approaches
- Proficiency in Excel/Google Sheets and financial modeling.
- Strong research and analytical capabilities, with attention to both qualitative and quantitative factors.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including report writing and presentation preparation.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- High degree of integrity, discretion, and alignment with the family’s mission-driven values.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree (MBA, MSc in Finance, Sustainability, or Impact Investing) or equivalent certification.
- Experience with ESG integration in private investments or venture philanthropy.
- Exposure to start-up ecosystems and angel investing networks.
- Working knowledge of AI-enabled platforms, such as Asana, to manage an investment portfolio.
- Working knowledge of Pitchbook).
- Prior experience working in or with family offices or foundations.
